The Hawaiian welcome begins as you are greeted at the airport with traditional flower lei before being taken to your tranquil oceanfront resort by transfer. Mailani in Hawaiian means to be ‘treated in a royal manner’, and at the Mailani Tower at The Royal Hawaiian, a Luxury Collection Resort, you’ll be met with world-class, authentic Hawaiian hospitality and high-quality service. Luxurious resort amenities include a complimentary continental breakfast selection that changes daily, using only the freshest island fruits and handmade pastries, two tropical pools, calming outdoor spa and exquisitely-presented meals with contemporary flavours at the choice of resort restaurants. At 6pm on the first evening, meet your Travelling Concierge and the other travellers on your tour for a magnificent Welcome Dinner with wine at The Azure Restaurant, which is renowned for its fresh seafood dishes created by Chef Shaymus Alwin. After a relaxing start and a leisurely breakfast, the next morning enjoy a private guided tour with a local historian of Iolani Palace, the only royal residence in the United States. Then visit downtown Honolulu, seeing Hawaii State Capitol, Washington Palace and the King Kamehameha Statue. The journey along the East Oahu coastline reveals breath-taking views of Hanauma Bay and its peaceful clear waters, Diamond Head and the Halona Blowhole. As the evening fades into the night, enjoy a Highlight Dinner with drinks and local entertainment from storytellers, musicians and dancers.
On the third day, it’s another relaxing resort start before heading to the historic Pearl Harbour, which houses the USS Arizona, keeping the memory of the military personnel killed in the surprise attack of 1941 alive. Afterwards, enjoy an idyllic scenic drive into the volcanic crater known locally as the ‘Punchbowl’, which features the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific. The rest of the afternoon is free, so you can explore Waikiki Beach or relax by the resort pool at your leisure. The evening includes another Highlight Dinner with wine, this time at award-winning Chef Roy Yamaguchi’s Hawaiian restaurant, which features elegant combinations of Californian, French and Japanese culinary traditions using fresh Hawaiian ingredients.
The next morning, after a revitalising night’s sleep, fly to the Big Island of Hawaii and discover Kailua-Kona, once the capital of the Kingdom of Hawaii. Learn about the history of coffee at the Kona Coffee Living History Farm and the story of the local 20th century coffee farmers. This evening is free, so you can ask your knowledgeable Travelling Concierge for some insider advice or relax at the spa facilities at the hotel, which include a Vichy shower, natural lava saunas, meditation pavilion and fragrance garden, amongst others. Staying at the fabulous Mauna Kea Beach Hotel on the Kohala Coast, is perfectly-situated just steps away from the white sands of Kauna’oa Bay. Each room in the Beachfront Wing features a furnished balcony or patio overlooking the turquoise bay waters and the luscious greens leading up to the beach itself. Rooms also include one King size bed or two Queen size beds, air conditioning, a refrigerator and TV.
The next day, you can have a leisurely start again, as the day is free to spend how you would like to. Play a round of golf, lounge on the picture-perfect beach, read by the hotel’s tropical pool, surrounded by palm trees and ocean views. Or, ask your Travelling Concierge for any tips or must-see landmarks, and they can help you book spectacular experiences such as helicopter flights above the deep-greens of the rainforests and even over an active volcano. Enjoy a delicious dinner with wine at one of the hotel’s sophisticated restaurants for a fantastic evening with panoramic views of the bay. The next morning, you can discover the natural charm of the volcanic landscapes on your way to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, where you can walk where lava once flowed in the Thurston Lava Tube and see the largest volcano in the world, Mauna Loa, as well as the active volcano, Kilauea. On your journey, also stop at the Jaggar Museum, with its exhibits of Pelehonuamea before lunch at the Kilauea Lodge.
Next, it’s time to fly from Hilo to Maui, where you will call the Grand Wailea, a Waldorf Astoria Resort, home for the next three nights. From its seven superb restaurants to the tropical pools and easy access to Wailea Beach, to the exclusive spa amenities at Spa Grande, using the healing waters of Maui to create a unique hydrotherapy circuit, from the moment you check-in, it’s a sophisticated experience with exclusive, luxurious touches. The evening is also all yours to explore the resort or make use of its extensive amenities, so why not relax at the largest spa in Hawaii or in one of the exotic beachfront pools? After a soothing night’s sleep, it’s time to have another relaxed start before spending the day at the resort, perhaps lounging one of the pools or relaxing on the sandy beach.
