Great Lakes Music Motorhome Tour

Next, it’s time to collect your motorhome to begin your musical-themed adventure. Standard motorhomes feature modern facilities, including a practical kitchenette with microwave, gas cooker, refrigerator and freezer, and a fully-equipped private bathroom with a shower and fresh water toilet. For added comfort, there’s air conditioning and the plush beds will allow your motorhome to become your new home-from-home as you tour around some of the world’s most beautiful lakes.

Once you’ve managed to enjoy some blues music in Chicago at one of its many blues lounges, start your classic trip by heading out of Illinois and into Indiana. The first stop is Michigan with a whole range of iconic sights and places to visit. You’ll be well-situated near Lake Michigan’s finest beaches and the campsite is also near the Curious Kids Museum, perfect for a fun morning of discoveries and, of course, curiosity. Next stop is Detroit, famous for its ‘Motown’ music. You can learn some more about this unique music at The Motown Museum in Detroit. On your journey, you’ll go past Battle Creek, where Dr Kellogg himself created cold breakfasts as we know them today. The campsite is just half an hour from Detroit itself, so why not visit the Henry Ford Museum or Detroit Zoo? The Arctic Ring of Life at Detroit Zoo allows you to get up close to polar bears in the world’s largest polar bear exhibit by going through a clear tunnel underneath their diving area.

Next, cross the border into Canada by bridge or tunnel before heading to Toronto. The long journey will certainly be worth it, especially when you can be rewarded with unparalleled views of Toronto from the CN Tower, which was the world’s tallest freestanding structure until 2007. Make sure to also check out the distillery district for dining and theatres all set amongst a unique 1800s distillery setting, or visit the Royal Ontario Museum to see the vast collection of culture and nature exhibits, so you can get to know some of Toronto’s past. On your journey to Toronto, you’ll pass by towns such as Chatham, London and Cambridge, which all make superb places to stop and explore to break up the journey.

Before long, it’s time to hit the road again, but this time around the serene Lake Ontario towards the Niagara Falls. The campsite for the next night is just ten minutes from Niagara Falls itself, you will be perfectly situated to take the famous Maid of the Mist boat tour to see the falls from a different perspective on the lake itself. Snap some pictures from dry land by this natural wonder for a photo opportunity unlike any other. Whilst you’re in the area, why not also visit a nearby wine producer, such as Chateau des Charmes, and sample some delicious local wines?

After spending some time in Canada, it’s time to head back to America, by taking the interstate towards Cleveland. Visit the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum and revisit the songs from your past. The campsite is just south of the city, near attractions such as Aurora Farms Premium Outlet, which is the ultimate stop for shoppers who love exclusive offers and discounts. For the sixth day on your adventure, stop at Cedar Point Amusement Park, the ‘roller coaster capital’ of the world. Experience all the thrills of the vast collection of rollercoasters, which draw visitors in from all over the globe. After the exhilaration of Cedar Point, it’s only a short drive to your next campsite.

Next, it’s time to head back towards Chicago by travelling through the state of Michigan. The campsite is well-located next to Donley’s Wild West Town, featuring a restaurant, train ride, general store, print shop, pony rides, vintage photo gallery and the ‘Street of Yesteryear’, as well as antique collections. This is a fun-packed final stop for adults and children on your last night! Nearby, there’s also Illinois Railway Museum, the largest of its kind in America, which is a superb stop-off for history lovers. On your final day, it’s time to say goodbye to your motorhome and return it to the Cruise America depot, which is conveniently-located just 15 miles from your final campsite.

If you want to explore more of Chicago’s many attractions after only having one night there at the start of the holiday, why not extend your trip in the windy city? This way, you can revisit any attractions you loved the first time around, buy some more last-minute souvenirs or gifts and discover even more things to see and do, such as the spectacular natural history museum, The Field Museum of Natural History, or perhaps you may want to go shopping in Northbridge or Water Tower Place, with more than 100 shops and 74 storeys.

Overall, this fabulous music-inspired multicentre combination is perfect for seeing some of Canada and America’s most serene, peaceful lakes. It is also provides the perfect balance of lively city life with cultural hotspots and idyllic natural landscapes.
