About Southern Texas Loop

Description

Get set for plenty of excitement on this amazing multi centre holiday to the Lone Star State where you’ll enjoy short stays at three of Texas’s most popular destinations.  Houston, Corpus Christi and San Antonio here we come !

Houston

With a perfect location in the uptown Galleria area of Houston the Westin Oaks Hotel combines first class service and modern amenities with direct access to the largest mall in Texas, the Galleria, making this hotel the ideal setting to experience the host of world class attractions, events and entertainment that the exciting and vibrant city of Houston has to offer.

To Infinity and beyond – explore the fascinating history of manned space travel at Houston Space Centre, the official visitor experience at NASA’s Johnson Space Centre where you’ll be able to see some of the capsules that were actually flown in space and take a behind the scenes tram tour of the Space Centre. Get an insight into the workings of the Historical Mission Control Centre, the Space Station Shuttle, and discover for yourself the rigours of astronaut training at this informative and entertaining attraction.

For a fantastic family day out head to the Children’s Museum of Houston, its educational, informative, exciting and above all fun – the kids will love it. The interactive Magic Bus like exploration of the human body provides a fascinating insight into our personalities, the workings of our internal organs and the ageing process – if you want to see what you’ll look like in 30 years’ time then this is the place to go. Kids can run their own city and make their own news reports at Kidtropolis, they love making their own gadgets in the Invention Convention and discovering how hydropower works at the Floworks exhibit , all in all a great family attraction.

There’s a world of wonder for visitors of all ages at Houston’s Museum of Natural Science, one of the most popular museums in the whole of the United States – with an IMAX theatre, Planetarium, Butterfly Centre and a fascinating variety of exhibits that examine space science, astronomy, Native American culture, Texas wildlife, palaeontology, gems and minerals and much more, it’s a place of exciting discovery for all the family.

Escape from the hustle and bustle of the city for a while at Buffalo Bayou where you can enjoy kayak, canoe and informative pontoon boat tours along the bayou. During the day you’ll witness the local wildlife including the occasional alligator sunning themselves on the bayou’s banks and if you come back at dusk and you might catch the amazing sight of a 250,000 strong bat colony emerging from under the Waugh Drive Bridge – don’t worry about getting to close as there’s a special viewing deck beside the bridge!

Hermann Park is perfect for some outdoor family fun, take the train along Herman Park Railroad, go pedal boating on McGovern Lake, enjoy a peaceful picnic inside the Centennial Gardens. And in the evening visit the park’s outdoor theatre where you’ll be able to take in the free music, and family friendly performances of hit shows and acrobatic displays.

Keeping your workout routines going is a cinch at this hotel thanks to Westin’s workout lending programme providing fresh New Balance workout gear for a nominal fee, just order the clothing and shoe sizes needed and they’ll be delivered to your room. Then it’s off to the well-appointed 24 hour gym for some cardio or weight workouts, or alternately why not choose one of the hotel’s customized running maps and enjoy the fresh air and sights of Houston on the running routes around the hotel?

Corpus Christi

Corpus Christi is a fantastic holiday destination – there’s the sun, the sea, fantastic beaches, superb restaurants, shopping and a host of attractions and activities for all the family to enjoy. It’s no wonder that Corpus Christi is often referred to as the Queen of the Texas Riviera and with superb all suite accommodations, fantastic service and a host of modern amenities providing all the comforts of home, the Embassy Suites are the perfect place for an amazing South Texas experience.

Enjoy hours of fun at the miles and miles of pristine beaches along the shores of Corpus Christi and the surrounding area, kick back and relax with some swimming and sunbathing in the calm waters of McGee Beach, experience some of the finest surfing in Texas at J.P Luby Surf Park, tackle up for some of the best jetty and deep water fishing around at South Packery Beach and Bob Hall Pier, and get back to nature at Padre Island where you’ll be able to see baby turtles heading out to sea for the first time. The beaches of Corpus Christi are amongst the finest in the whole of Texas and they’re right on your doorstep.

For a great day out visit the Texas State Aquarium, the official aquarium of Texas and enjoy educational dolphin presentations, coral reefs with moray eels and stingrays, trained birds including parrots hawks, owls and falcons, sand tiger sharks, North American river otters, American alligators and much more – there’s fun for all the family at this exciting and educational attraction.

History comes to life at the USS Lexington Museum with real pictures and real stories of the real heroes that served aboard this iconic Aircraft Carrier during WW2. See for yourself the spot where a Kamikaze plane hit the deck during an attack, test your skills at the Virtual Battle Stations, see the Captain in action, walk the ship’s narrow passageways and get a first-hand view of the vintage aircraft on deck – and if some of the views look familiar that’s because parts of the movie Pearl Harbour were filmed here in 2001 – all aboard for a truly memorable experience!

The Museum of Science and History is a fascinating experience and well worth a visit, located on the scenic harbour waterfront, in the Sports and Entertainment District, the museum is home to thousands of historical artefacts, interesting exhibits, and offers a fascinating insight into the origins and development of Corpus Christi and the broader Gulf area. Make sure you visit the shipwreck exhibit and walk aboard a partial replica of one of Cristopher Columbus’s old Spanish Galleons.

There are oodles of fun for all the family at Hurricane Alley Waterpark, with a lazy river, thrilling waterslides, huge wave pool, kid’s cove with its own aircraft carrier the USS Dusty and an exciting surf simulator, the Shredder, it’s the perfect place to cool down on a hot Corpus Christi day!

A stay at the Embassy Suites is a real treat, you’ll get your day off to the perfect start with a free cooked to order breakfast and after a busy day at the beach, the evening reception is the perfect place to meet up with fellow guests to recharge your batteries with a complimentary cocktail and some tasty snacks.

San Antonio

Located in the Museum Reach section of the iconic Riverwalk, the Indigo San Antonio hotel is a Grand Spanish Villa style hotel providing comfortable boutique style accommodations, modern facilities and views of the river from the hotel’s terrace and guest room balconies.

The hotel’s seriously desirable location on San Antonio Riverwalk means that you’re just a short stroll from the fantastic array of landmark attractions, museums, shops, restaurants and entertainment that contribute to making this famous attraction, such a fun and vibrant neighbourhood. One of the best ways to explore the area is from the river – hop aboard one of the gondola style taxis that stops by the hotel terrace, and enjoy the sights and sounds of this fantastic part of town from the unique perspective of the river. Packed with things to see there’s something for everyone at the Riverwalk, enjoy a casual lunch by the river, take in a show at an open air theatre, relive the Alamo Story in 3D at the Texas Experience, visit the Museum of Modern Art, and end the day with a cold beer at one of the area’s oldest bars.

The Alamo Fort is the most popular historic landmark in Texas, it’s just under a mile from the hotel and is very easy to get to. Experience the battlefield first hand and walk in the footsteps of Bowie, Crocket, Travis and Esparza – with guided tours, daily events and living history demonstrations it’s a fascinating experience for all the family.

Step back in time to the era of the Spanish conquistadors and discover how the Spanish developed the mission system in the San Antonio area at the San Antonio Missions National Historical Park. Spread out over the four locations of Missions, San Jose, Conception, San Juan and Espada this Unesco World Heritage Site provides a fascinating insight into this unique period of Texas history. Make a day of it and experience all four Missions by walking, hiking or biking between them, the recently completed paved pathways provides a safe and convenient way of exploring these landmark historical sites.

Getting around San Antonio is easy and one of the best ways to explore the city is on the hop on hop off bus tour. With stops at Alamo Square, historical and art museums, breweries, BBQ restaurants, The Spanish Governor’s Palace, Mexican market, Tower of the Americas and the Riverwalk it’s a great way to explore the major attractions of San Antonio without getting lost. There’s so much to see and do on this tour that you might want to take up the option of a 48 hour ticket!

A great choice, the Indigo Hotel San Antonio has an array of modern amenities for guests to enjoy. Chill out and relax with a cool drink by the charming outdoor pool, surf the net to your heart’s content and keep in touch with everybody back home with complimentary Wi-Fi, keep your workout routines going at the hotel’s compact 24 hour fitness centre or just relax and watch the world go by from the comfort of the hotel’s riverside terrace. Tyler
Tyler is your man! After having tried the high street and ‘main stream’ travel agents and tried to have a go at building our own holiday with little success I decided to email Travel Planners late one night with a rough outline of our hopes for a multi destination trip to America. The very next morning I received a call from Tyler Vockel.
Paula
This travel company was recommended to me by a work colleague over a discussion about road trips in California. I had tried for months comparing prices with quite a few travel operators for travel to California in 2025. I was advised to try Travel Planners for their competitive prices, and personal customer services. Having given them a try, I was put through to Paula Stanton whom I gave my proposed itinerary.
Shirin
Shirin couldn't have done any more for me. She was so polite, helpful and full of enthusiasm. Thank you Shirin.

Stephen was extremely knowledgeable and was more than happy to give us some “top tips” along the way…he stayed in contact via email, answering my countless questions (sorry!!) and managed to find us the very best possible deal. The booking process was very efficient and I would not hesitate to book with them again in the future! Thank you ☺️
