About New York and Puerto Rico

New York & Puerto Rico Getaway

Make your next holiday a holiday to remember with a travelplanners Twin Centre holiday. Take in incredible sights and sounds of New York before heading to Puerto Rico in the Caribbean to make unforgettable tropical memories.

New York

A Lavish hotel with a grand welcome and chic ambience, a superb choice for all ages with the best of New York within walking distance. Beautiful guestrooms and fine amenities provide a wonderful place to relax after a day or night of exciting sightseeing. A pleasant stroll to Park Avenue, Fifth Avenue, Central Park, Times Square, Rockefeller Centre, Broadway theatres, restaurants and world-famous shopping makes the Hyatt Grand Central an obvious choice for a New York stay.

Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico doesn’t just have style – this Caribbean gem has heart and soul, and a rhythm that you won’t be able to resist. It’s a land steeped in Spanish heritage, finding its feet in its American present and still very much managing to maintain a distinctly Puerto Rican spirit.

With extraordinary experiences for everyone, this is a destination that offers visitors an unparalleled island getaway. Think rich history and culture, exceptional food, pristine coastlines, crystal clear waters, rainforest-clad mountains, a vibrant nightlife scene, piña coladas galore, heaps of thrilling activities, and countless opportunities for a spot of sun, sea, and sand relaxation – all packed into one tropical Caribbean paradise.

Around every corner and at all times, Puerto Ricans are celebrating in ways you haven’t seen before. Whether it be with delicious food, contagious rhythms, or cultural festivities, it won’t take you long to fall in love with the Island of Enchantment.

Located on the beach the Hyatt Regency Grand Reserve Puerto Rico is in Zarzal, a neighbourhood in Río Grande.  Coco Beach Golf and Country Club and Big Tree Trail are well worth visiting. Experience the area’s natural beauty and explore Luquillo Beach and El Yunque National Forest and Carabali Rainforest Park. Discover water adventures with boat tours and fishing nearby, or enjoy the great outdoors with hiking and biking trails and horse riding. This resort is a great place to relax and enjoy the sunshine on a beautiful white sand beach. Treat yourself to a body scrub, a massage or a facial at Rainforest Spa, the on-site spa.  Enjoy dinner at one of the 4 hotel restaurants.

Puerto Rico has 300 miles of coastline and is bordered by the beautiful Caribbean Sea. The island is split into 7 main regions detailed below.

Metro

The capital region of Puerto Rico features the bustling San Juan. Picture cobblestone streets, colourful colonial architecture mixed with urban life, contemporary dining and a vibrant nightlife. Luis Munoz Marin International Airport is located here, as well as the Island’s busiest cruise terminal. There are dozens of beautiful hotels in the Metro region, from all the big American brands to the more boutique and smaller properties. The Old City of San Juan is over 500 years old and has many historical landmarks including the stunning El Morro Fortress. Those who enjoy rum, will love exploring Casa Bacardi. The world’s largest rum distillery is located in San Juan. Lets not forget, the Carolina district is home to some of the island’s most popular beaches.

North

One hour west of San Juan is the northern strip of Puerto Rico, where you’ll find beautiful beaches and idyllic resorts dotted along the coastline. It is also home to Dorado, one of the most luxurious destinations on the island. The caves and caverns of Arecibo and Camuy are also located here; be sure to explore the 3rd largest cavern system in the world!

East

This is where you go to disconnect. Just one hour east of San Juan is the secluded eastern region. Home to the legendary El Yunque rainforest – the only tropical rainforest on US territory. The water off the east coast of the island is calm, perfect for snorkelling, fishing and diving. It is also home to a bioluminescent bay – one of only 5 in the world, as well as waterfalls, hiking trails and breathtaking views.

South

The southern region offers more secluded beaches, stunning natural beauty including Coamo Hot Springs for a thermal spa experience you won’t get enough of! Salinas is a quaint coastal town that has a widespread reputation as a foodie mecca, whereas Ponce, being the second city after San Juan, is home to Puerto Rico’s top museums, historical and cultural attractions.

West

The west of the Island provides a more laid-back, surfer vibe, with some incredible beaches such as Playuela covering 4000ft of coastline. Here you’ll find lots of laid-back beachfront eateries with all the pina coladas and mojitos you could wish for. Cabo Rojo National Wildlife Reserve is a must do for hikers and wildlife enthusiasts.

Central Mountains

As the name suggests, this mountainous region provides plenty of opportunity to explore, explore for the adventure seekers! Toro Verde National Park is home to the longest zipline in the world (at almost a mile long) and there are opportunities to river raft, explore caves, caverns and also visit local haciendas – to taste exquisite locally produced coffee.

Culebra & Vieques

These islands are Puerto Rico’s best kept secret. Just a short, 40 minute boat ride from San Juan brings you to this world-renowned archipelago and wildlife refuge that is home to sea turtles and other marine life. Mosquito Bay, one of the few bioluminescent bays in the world is located here, as well as Playa Negra – a unique and mesmerising black sand beach on the island of Vieques.
